  • Isaiah 45 and John 3:1-21

‘I am יהוה, and there is none else – there is no Elohim besides Me. I gird you, though you have not known Me, so that they know from the rising of the sun to its setting that there is none but Me. I am יהוה, and there is none else, forming light and creating darkness, making peace and creating evil. I, יהוה, do all these.’ (Isaiah 45:5-7 ISR98)

Excellent post! YHWH/Yeshua/Torah cannot be separated. Amein?

The Refiner's Fire by Carmen and Bill Welker:

Those who have publicly turned their backs on Messiah Yeshua take many NT passages out of context. That is because they focus only on a sentence or two while ignoring the REST of the passage; and, consequently, they are missing the bigger picture. One such Messiah denier has made a video to prove that Paul "removes the Creator from various verses and gives them to Jesus." (These people never use the Name "Yeshua" because its meaning kicks them squarely where they sit, because His Name means "YAH is Salvation!" Yeshua is the ONLY "heavenly entity" who has the name of YHWH within his own name!)

Well, if this poor, deluded soul had only read the CONTEXT of his supposed "proof texts", he might have been very surprised to learn that YHWH gave us a "rest of the story" that extends outside the Tanach (OT)! This person used Romans 14:10-12 and Philippians 2:10 to "prove" that Paul totally detracted from Isaiah 45:22-24, which says:

Iaisah 45:22 Look to me, and be saved, all the ends of the earth! For I am God; there is no other. 23 In the name of myself I have sworn, from my mouth has rightly gone out, a word that will not return - that to me every knee will bow and every tongue will swear 24 about me that only in ADONAI are justice and strength." All who rage against him will come to him ashamed, (CJB)

So, let’s take a look at the CONTEXT of those verses – a context that reveals that Yeshua, as the "ARM OF YHWH" – Isaiah 53:1) is ONE with His Father; not some "new god" or some idol who came to usurp YHWH’s power:

Romans 10: 8. Because if we live, to our Master (Y’shua) it is we live; or if we die, to our Master it is we die. Whether we live, therefore, or whether we die, we are our Master’s. 9. Moreover, for this cause Mashiyach died and revived and arose; that he might be Master YHWH of the dead and of the living.[1] 10. But you, why do you judge your brother? Or, why do you despise your brother? For we must all stand before the judgment seat of Mashiyach! 11. As it is written: As I live, says Master YHWH, to me every knee will bow; and to me every tongue will give praise. 12. So then, every one of us must give account of himself to Elohim. (AENT)

Footnote: By rising from the dead and ascending into heaven, Y’shua becomes the Word that is with Elohim and is Elohim (John 1:1-5). Y’shua is the exact reflection of YHWH’s nature (Hebrews 1:1-5) and will bear the name, "Word of Elohim" when he comes out of heaven again at the second coming (Revelation 19:13).

Philippians 2: 5. And think you so in yourselves, as Y’shua the Mashiyach also thought; 6. who, as he was in the likeness of Elohim, did not regard it sinful to be the coequal[1] of Elohim; 7. yet disinherited himself and assumed the likeness of a servant, and was in the likeness of men and was found in fashion as a man;[2] 8. and he humbled himself and became obedient to death, even the death of the stake. 9. Wherefore, also, Elohim has highly exalted him and given him a name[3] which is more excellent than all names; 10. that at the name of Y’shua every knee should bow, of (beings) in heaven and on earth and under the earth; 11. and that every tongue should confess that Y’shua the Mashiyach is YHWH,[4] to the glory of Elohim his Father. (AENT)

[1] For a comparative analysis of the Greek translation and Tanakh insights see Coequal of Elohim in AENT Appendix. (Note from Carmen: If you don’t have an AENT, I highly recommend you get one because it’s truly amazing!)

[2] Khabouris Codex reproduces the first four letters of the next word, and for the fifth letter, substitutes the kaph for a beyt, which are similar looking letters. The word reproduced is "and in the form of."

[3] More that his literal birth name Y’shua (which was and is a common Hebrew name), and more than the perfect reputation that his name represents. Y’shua bears the Name of YHWH, the "name above all names"! Y’shua has the Name and reputation of the Father YHWH in him (John 17:11) and the name means "YHWH is Salvation" (Matthew 1:21).

[4] See Mashiyach Y’shua is YHWH in Appendix. Also see Philippians 2:6-11.)

    Deep thought of YHWH/Yeshua/Torah:

Isaiah 45:22 refers John 3:13-16 so I share with you John 3:1-21 about Yeshua and Nicodemus.

John 3:1-21 Names of God Bible (NOG)

1 Nicodemus was a Pharisee and a member of the Jewish council. 2 He came to Yeshua one night and said to him, "Rabbi, we know that God has sent you as a teacher. No one can perform the miracles you perform unless God is with him."

3 Yeshua replied to Nicodemus, "I can guarantee this truth: No one can see the kingdom of God without being born from above."

4 Nicodemus asked him, "How can anyone be born when he’s an old man? He can’t go back inside his mother a second time to be born, can he?"

5 Yeshua answered Nicodemus, "I can guarantee this truth: No one can enter the kingdom of God without being born of water and the Spirit. 6 Flesh and blood give birth to flesh and blood, but the Spirit gives birth to things that are spiritual. 7 Don’t be surprised when I tell you that all of you must be born from above. 8 The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you don’t know where the wind comes from or where it’s going. That’s the way it is with everyone born of the Spirit."

9 Nicodemus replied, "How can that be?"

10 Yeshua told Nicodemus, "You’re a well-known teacher of Israel. Can’t you understand this? 11 I can guarantee this truth: We know what we’re talking about, and we confirm what we’ve seen. Yet, you don’t accept our message. 12 If you don’t believe me when I tell you about things on earth, how will you believe me when I tell you about things in heaven? 13 No one has gone to heaven except the Son of Man, who came from heaven.

14 "As Moses lifted up the snake on a pole in the desert, so the Son of Man must be lifted up. 15 Then everyone who believes in him will have eternal life."

16 God loved the world this way: He gave his only Son so that everyone who believes in him will not die but will have eternal life. 17 God sent his Son into the world, not to condemn the world, but to save the world. 18 Those who believe in him won’t be condemned. But those who don’t believe are already condemned because they don’t believe in God’s only Son.

19 This is why people are condemned: The light came into the world. Yet, people loved the dark rather than the light because their actions were evil. 20 People who do what is wrong hate the light and don’t come to the light. They don’t want their actions to be exposed. 21 But people who do what is true come to the light so that the things they do for God may be clearly seen.

  • YHWH/Yeshua/Torah: Wisdom [Chokmah]

    wisdom [chokmah]

The Refiner's Fire by Carmen and Bill Welker:

For those who are new to Torah (or if you simply like our short weekly Torah studies), this week's portion can be found at

    http://www.therefinersfire.org/parashah_36.htm

Some words of wisdom from Chabad.org:

This week's parsha begins with God commanding Aaron the High Priest (Moses' brother) to light the Menorah every day in the Tabernacle. The Menorah's seven branches are bedecked with decorative cups, knobs and flowers – all fashioned from a single, solid piece of gold.

But then the Torah adds an interesting detail: "When you light the Menorah, be sure that the [six] outer lamps face the center" (Numbers 8:2). What do the six outer lamps represent, and why must they all face the seventh center stem?

The commentators explain that the six outer branches represent the six fields of knowledge: medicine, physics, mathematics, art, psychology and sociology. These are essential fields of scholarship. Were it not for human excellence in these areas, we would not have heart transplants, ballet, air transportation or, for that matter, the internet.

But the Torah is telling us that society cannot rest on knowledge alone. Unless this information is focused and directed toward the center stem – symbolizing God, Torah and spirituality – then this wisdom is for naught. Or worse, destructive.

    Knowledge Without Wisdom?

Greece was once a mighty empire. The Greeks promoted beautiful fashion, fine dining, sonorous music, aesthetic arts, vigorous athletics, and captivating entertainment. In the essential fields of scholarship, the Greeks were the most advanced and sophisticated of their time.

But why didn't the Greek empire survive for more than a few hundred years? Historians concur they were destroyed by moral decay. Jealousy, greed and promiscuity eroded the society until it crumbled. "Knowledge" without God is a recipe for disaster. We simply cannot and will not survive without a clear moral direction.

The Greeks had gods – an entire pantheon, in fact. But these were man-made gods, the kind that get jealous and argue and commit immoral behavior of their own. Man cannot develop his own objective system, because man – as part of the group that the system is designed for – is inherently subjective. The Greek gods were not the kind to aspire to, rather these gods were invented to excuse man's own corrupt behavior.

The most jarring example, of course, is Nazi Germany. Germany was known for it's leading academic institutions, advancement in the arts, and impeccable social conduct. Where did it all lead? At the Wanasee Conference (the Nazi meeting to formulate the "Final Solution" for the extermination of Jews), 9 of the 13 participants were Ph.D.s. These were the most creative, scientific minds in the entire civilized world. Yet in a remarkable act of self-deception, they were able to redefine "morality" toward ultimate evil. It was a Godless technology, knowledge without wisdom.

Sharing you all this excellent post about "Knowledge Without Wisdom?"

Deep thought of YHWH/Yeshua/Torah: One Wisdom

    YHWH/Yeshua/Torah cannot be seperated.

    Yeshua Himself Wisdom of YHWH:

Proverbs 8:22-36 TLV Wisdom Before Creation

22"Adonai brought me forth, the first of His way, before His works of old.

23From eternity I was appointed from the beginning, before the world began.

24When there were no depths, I was brought forth, when there were no fountains abounding with water.

25Before the mountains were shaped, before the hills, I was brought forth.

26He had not yet made the land, the fields, or the first dust of the earth.

27When He set the heavens in place, I was there. When He inscribed the horizon on the face of the ocean,

28when He established the skies above, when He securely fixed the fountains of the deep,

29when He set the boundaries for the sea, so that the waters never transgress His command, when He laid out earth’s foundations—

30then I was the craftsman beside Him, I was His daily delight, always rejoicing before Him,

31rejoicing in His whole world, and delighting in mankind.

32"So now, children, listen to me! Blessed are those who keep my ways.

33Heed discipline and be wise, and do not neglect it.

34Blessed is the one who listens to me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at my doorposts.

35For whoever finds me finds life and obtains favor from Adonai.

36But whoever fails to find me harms his life— all who hate me love death."

    1 Corinthians 1:18-31 TLV especially verse 30

    Whose Wisdom Is Foolish?

18For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.

19For it is written, "I will destroy the wisdom of the wise and bring to nothing the understanding of the intelligent."

20Where is the wise one? Where is the Torah scholar? Where is the debater of this age? Hasn’t God made foolish the wisdom of the world?

21For seeing that—in God’s wisdom—the world through its wisdom did not know God, God was pleased—through the foolishness of the message proclaimed—to save those who believe.

22For Jewish people ask for signs and Greek people seek after wisdom,

23but we proclaim Messiah crucified—a stumbling block to Jewish people and foolishness to Gentile people,

24but to those who are called (both Jewish and Greek people), Messiah, the power of God and the wisdom of God.

25For the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men.

26For you see your calling, brothers and sisters, that not many are wise according to human standards, not many are powerful, and not many are born well.

    27Yet God chose the foolish things of the world so He might put to shame the wise; and God chose the weak things of the world so He might put to shame the strong;

28and God chose the lowly and despised things of the world, the things that are as nothing, so He might bring to nothing the things that are—

29so that no human might boast before God.

30But because of Him you are in Messiah Yeshua, who became to us wisdom from God and righteousness and holiness and redemption—

31so that, just as it is written, "Let him who boasts, boast in Adonai."

Luke 2:41-52 TLV especially verse 52

Yeshua haMashiyach's childhood life: The Boy Astonishes Jerusalem Scholars

41Now His parents were going every year to Jerusalem for the Passover feast.

42When He became twelve years old, they were going up according to festival custom.

43As they headed home after completing the days, the boy Yeshua remained in Jerusalem, but His parents didn’t know.

44Supposing He was in the caravan, they went a day’s journey, then began looking for Him among relatives and friends.

45When they did not find Him, they returned to Jerusalem to search for Him.

46After three days they found Him in the Temple, sitting in the center of the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions.

47And all those hearing Him were astonished at His understanding and His answers.

48When His parents saw Yeshua, they were overwhelmed. And His mother said to Him, "Child, why did you do this to us? Look! Your father and I were searching for You frantically!"

49He said to them, "Why were you searching for Me? Didn’t you know that I must be about the things of My Father?"

50But they did not grasp the message He was telling them.

51Then He went down with them to Natzeret and was obedient to them. But His mother treasured all these words in her heart.

52And Yeshua kept increasing in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men.

Haftarah (Writings and Prophets): Zechariah 2:14-4:7.
B'rit Hadasha (New Testament): John 19:31-37; Hebrews 3:1-6.

    Numbers 8:1-4 Lighting the Lamp
8:1 God spoke to Moses, telling him to
8:2 speak to Aaron and say to him, 'When you light the lamps, the seven lamps shall illuminate the menorah.'
8:3 Aaron did that, lighting the lamps to illuminate the menorah, as God commanded Moses.
8:4 The menorah was made of a single piece of beaten gold. Everything from its base to its blossom consisted of a single piece of beaten metal. The menorah was thus made exactly according to the vision that God showed Moses.

Deep thought of YHWH/Yeshua/Torah:   Shemesh is the centerline of Menorah
Exodus 25:37 Make seven lamps on [the menorah]. Its lamps shall be lit so that they shine [primarily] toward its center.

YHWH/Yeshua/Torah:   One Divine Shemesh Tzedakah (sun of righteousness)
    Malachi 4:1-5
4 “For look! The day is about to come, burning like an oven, and all the arrogant and every evildoer will be stubble. The coming day will consume them,” says Yahweh of hosts. “It will not leave behind for them root or branch.
2 But for you who revere my name, the sun of righteousness [Shemesh Tzedakah] will rise, with healing in its wings, and you will go out and leap like fattened calves.
3 You will trample down the wicked, for they will be ashes under the soles of your feet on the day that I am going to act,” says Yahweh of hosts.
4 “Remember the instruction of my servant Moses, which I commanded him at Horeb to all Israel, the rules and regulations.
5 Look! I am going to send to you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and awesome day of Yahweh! 6 And he will bring back the hearts of the fathers to the sons, and the hearts of the sons to their fathers, so that I will not come and strike the land with a ban.”

John 8:12  Yeshua is the Light of the World
Then Yeshua spoke out again, "I am the light of the world" The one who follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life."

    Hosea 6:1-3
    A Call to Yahweh
    6 Come, let us return to Yahweh;
    because it is he who has torn, and he will heal us;
he has struck us down and will bind us up.
    2 He will revive us after two days;
on the third day he will raise us up,
that we may live in his presence.
    3 Let us know, let us press on to know Yahweh;
his rising is sure like the dawn.
He will come like the showers to us,
like the spring rain that waters the earth.

Haftorah Question of the Week: Judges 13:2-25

Who is the “Man of Elohim” that talks with Manoah?

Where does the Scripture confirm his identity?
It’s Y’shua ha Mashiyach of course, in pre-incarnate form.

17 Manoah then said to the Angel of Yahweh, 'What is your name, so that
we may honour you when your words come true?'
18 The Angel of Yahweh replied, 'Why ask my name? It is a name of wonder.' (Judges 13:17-18 NJB)

When Y’shua says “My name is a name of wonder”, is in effect quoting
from the prophet Yeshayahu who won’t be born for another 600 years at
least! Yeshayahu will call Y’shua prophetically WONDERFUL,
Counselor, and so on, in his 9th chapter.

Wow!  I found this scripture verse confirmation.  HalleluYAH!
Isaiah 9:6 “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given; and the government rests upon His shoulder: and they call His name, Wonder, Counsellor, mighty God, Eternal-Father, Prince of Peace."

  • "lamad" in Hebrew

    lamad

The Refiner’s Fire by Bill and Carmen Welker:

We’re constantly reminded that YHWH/Yeshua/Torah cannot be separated. For instance, take a look at these two scriptures:

Rev. 12:17 - And the dragon was enraged against the woman; and he went to make war upon the remnant of her seed who keep the Commandments of Elohim[1] AND have the testimony[2] of Y'shua. (AENT)

Rev. 14:12 - Here is the patience of the Set Apart believers who keep the commandments of Elohim, AND the faith of Y'shua. (AENT)

[1] Two very distinct groups; one willfully breaks the Commandments of Elohim and causes others to do the same, but the other group keeps the Commandments of Elohim and observes Torah.

    [2] Isaiah 8:20.

Amein! I agree this post. YHWH/Yeshua/Torah cannot be separated.

    John 13:1-17 TLV:   Modeling Servanthood

1Now it was just before the feast of Passover. Yeshua knew that His hour had come to depart from this world to the Father. Having loved His own who were in the world, He loved them until the end.

2While the seder meal was happening, the devil had already put in the heart of Judah from Kriot that he should hand over Yeshua.

3Yeshua knew that the Father had given all things into His hands, and that He had come from God and was returning to God.

4So He gets up from the meal and lays aside His outer garment; and taking a towel, He wrapped it around His waist.

5Then He pours water into a basin. He began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel wrapped around Him.

6Then He comes to Simon Peter, who says to Him, “Master, are You going to wash my feet?”

7Yeshua responded, “You don’t know what I am doing now, but you will understand after these things.”

8Peter said to Him, “You shall never wash my feet!” Yeshua answered him, “If I don’t wash you, you have no part with Me.”

9Simon Peter said to Him, “Master, then not only my feet, but also my hands and my head!”

10Yeshua said to him, “He who has bathed has no need to wash, except the feet; he is completely clean. And you all are clean, though not every one.”

11He knew who was betraying Him; for this reason, He said, “Not all of you are clean.”

12So after He had washed their feet and put His robe back on and reclined again, He said to them, “Do you understand what I have done for you?

13You call Me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Master’—and rightly you say, for I am.

14So if I, your Master and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash each other’s feet.

15I have given you an example—you should do for each other what I have done for you.

16“Amen, amen I tell you, a servant isn’t greater than his master, and the one who is sent isn’t greater than the one who sent him.

17If you know these things, you are blessed if you do them!”

    John 13:10 TLV

    10Yeshua said to him [Peter/Kefa],

“He who has bathed has no need to wash, except the feet; he is completely clean. And you all are clean, though not every one.”

Exodus 30:17-21 TLV:    Basin for Washing

    17Adonai spoke to Moses saying,

18“You will also make a basin of bronze with a bronze stand for washing. You are to place it between the Tent of Meeting and the altar and put water in it.

19Aaron and his sons are to wash their hands and their feet there.

20Whenever they go into the Tent of Meeting or come near to the altar to minister, to present an offering made by fire in smoke to Adonai, they are to wash with water so that they do not die.

21They are to wash their hands and their feet, so that they do not die. It is to be an eternal statute for them, to him and to his offspring through

  • YHWH/Yeshua: "It is written"

    Romans 3 Chapter

I love this photo of scripture verses "It is written" refers Torah.  Yeshua haMashiyach is the Word/Torah of YHWH teach us all learn to quote:  "It is written".

    Romans 3:10-12 CJB
10 As the Tanakh "Old Testament" puts it, "There is no one righteous, not even one! No one understands,
    11 no one seeks God,
12 all have turned away and at the same time become useless; there is no one who shows kindness, not a single one!

Romans 3:10 refers Psalms 14:1-3 and Psalms 53:1-3

    Psalms 14:1-7 CJB
1 For the leader. By David: Fools say in their hearts, "There is no God."They deal corruptly, their deeds are vile, not one does what is right.
2 From heaven ADONAI observes humankind to see if anyone has understanding, if anyone seeks God.
3 But all turn aside, all alike are corrupt; no one does what is right, not a single one.
4 Don't they ever learn, all those evildoers, who eat up my people as if eating bread and never call on ADONAI?
5 There they are, utterly terrified; for God is with those who are righteous.
6 You may mock the plans of the poor, but their refuge is ADONAI.
7 How I wish Isra'el's salvation would come out of Tziyon! When ADONAI restores his people's fortunes, Ya'akov will rejoice, Isra'el will be glad!

    Psalms 53:1-6 CJB
1 For the leader. On machalat. A maskil of David: A brutish fool tells himself, "There isn't any God."Such people are depraved, all their deeds are vile, not one of them does what is good.
2 God looks out from heaven upon the human race to see if even one is wise, if even one seeks God.
3 Every one of them is unclean, altogether corrupt; not one of them does what is good, not a single one.
4 Won't these evildoers ever learn? They devour my people as if they were eating bread, and they never call on God!
5 They will be gripped with terror, even though now they are not afraid; for God will scatter the bones of him who is besieging you. You are putting them to shame, because God has rejected them.
6 If only salvation for Isra'el would come out of Tziyon! When God restores his people's fortunes, what joy for Ya'akov! what gladness for Isra'el!

    Servant of YHWH/Yeshua and Torah

  • YHWH/Yeshua: Psalms 143

Yeshua is the arm of YHWH.

    Psalms 143:10 CJB

10 Teach me to do your will, because you are my God; Let your good Spirit guide me on ground that is level.

    Psalms 143 CJB

1 A psalm of David: ADONAI, hear my prayer; listen to my pleas for mercy. In your faithfulness, answer me, and in your righteousness.

2 Don't bring your servant to trial, since in your sight no one alive would be considered righteous.
3 For an enemy is pursuing me; he has crushed my life into the ground and left me to live in darkness, like those who have been long dead.
4 My spirit faints within me; my heart is appalled within me.
5 I remember the days of old, reflecting on all your deeds, thinking about the work of your hands.
6 I spread out my hands to you, I long for you like a thirsty land. (Selah)
7 Answer me quickly, ADONAI, because my spirit is fainting. Don't hide your face from me, or I'll be like those who drop down into a pit.
8 Make me hear of your love in the morning, because I rely on you. Make me know the way I should walk, because I entrust myself to you.
9 ADONAI, rescue me from my enemies; I have hidden myself with you.
10 Teach me to do your will, because you are my God; Let your good Spirit guide me on ground that is level.
11 For your name's sake, ADONAI, preserve my life; in your righteousness, bring me out of distress.
12 In your grace, cut off my enemies; destroy all those harassing me; because I am your servant.

  • The Story of Samson: Manoah's wife sat out in the fields

Shalom!  I love simple story about Samson's parents prayed and took heed voice of YHWH before the birth of Samson in the Book of Judges 13.

    Manoah wife on Judges 13

The Story of Samson = “like the sun”
    1) a Danite, son of Manoah, a Nazarite for life, and a judge of Israel for 20 years

Judges 13:9-10 Manoah's wife was sitting out in the fields:
Elohim did what Manoah asked. The Messenger of Elohim came back to his wife while she was sitting out in the fields. But her husband Manoah was not with her.
The woman ran quickly to tell her husband. She said, “The man who came to me the other day has just appeared to me again.”

Judges 13:2-15 NOG (Names of God)
2 There was a man from Zorah named Manoah. Manoah was from the family of Dan. His wife was not able to have children. 3 The Messenger of Yahweh appeared to her and said, “You’ve never been able to have a child, but now you will become pregnant and have a son. 4 Now you must be careful. Don’t drink any wine or liquor or eat any unclean food. 5 You’re going to become pregnant and have a son. You must never cut his hair because the boy will be a Nazirite dedicated to Elohim from birth. He will begin to rescue Israel from the power of the Philistines.”
6 The woman went to tell her husband. She said, “A man of Elohim came to me. He had a very frightening appearance like the Messenger of Elohim. So I didn’t ask him where he came from, and he didn’t tell me his name. 7 He told me, ‘You’re going to become pregnant and have a son. So don’t drink any wine or liquor or eat any unclean food because the boy will be a Nazirite dedicated to Elohim from the time he is born until he dies.’”
8 Then Manoah pleaded with Yahweh, “Please, Adonay, let the man of Elohim you sent come back to us. Let him teach us what we must do for the boy who will be born.”
9 Elohim did what Manoah asked. The Messenger of Elohim came back to his wife while she was sitting out in the fields. But her husband Manoah was not with her. 10 The woman ran quickly to tell her husband. She said, “The man who came to me the other day has just appeared to me again.”
11 Manoah immediately followed his wife. When he came to the man, he asked him, “Are you the man who spoke to my wife?”
    “Yes,” he answered.
12 Then Manoah asked, “When your words come true, how should the boy live and what should he do?”
13 The Messenger of Yahweh answered Manoah, “Your wife must be careful to do everything I told her to do. 14 She must not eat anything that comes from the grapevines, drink any wine or liquor, or eat any unclean food. She must be careful to do everything I commanded.”
15 Manoah said to the Messenger of Yahweh, “Please stay while we prepare a young goat for you to eat.”
16 But the Messenger of Yahweh responded, “If I stay here, I will not eat any of your food. But if you make a burnt offering, sacrifice it to Yahweh.” (Manoah did not realize that it was the Messenger of Yahweh.)
17 Then Manoah asked the Messenger of Yahweh, “What is your name? When your words come true, we will honor you.”
18 The Messenger of Yahweh asked him, “Why do you ask for my name? It’s a name that works miracles.”
19 So Manoah took a young goat and a grain offering and sacrificed them to Yahweh on a rock he used as an altar. While Manoah and his wife watched, the Lord did something miraculous. 20 As the flame went up toward heaven from the altar, the Messenger of Yahweh went up in the flame. When Manoah and his wife saw this, they immediately bowed down with their faces touching the ground.
21 The Messenger of Yahweh didn’t appear again to Manoah and his wife. Then Manoah knew that this had been the Messenger of Yahweh. 22 So Manoah said to his wife, “We will certainly die because we have seen Elohim.”
23 But Manoah’s wife replied, “If Yahweh wanted to kill us, he would not have accepted our burnt offering and grain offering. He would not have let us see or hear all these things just now.”
24 So the woman had a son and named him Samson. The boy grew up, and Yahweh blessed him. 25 The Ruach Elohim began to stir in him while he was at Mahaneh Dan, between Zorah and Eshtaol.
