  • YHWH/Yeshua/Torah: shleeha ("apostle")

Yeshua is Tree of Life of Torah

YHWH/Yeshua/Torah: Greetings to the Corinthian Believers (Servants)

Before read on 1 Corinthians 1:1-3:

Rav Shaul (Paul) identifies himself as a shleeha* ["apostle"] meaning "one who is sent". The Aramaic term not only means "apostle" but also "messenger, missionary".

*shleeha: Shlach, Shelach, Sh'lah, Shlach Lecha, or Sh'lah L'kha (שְׁלַח or שְׁלַח-לְךָ – Hebrew for "send", "send to you", or "send for yourself")

One of Torah Parashah every week:

    http://www.therefinersfire.org/parashah_37.htm

Sosthenes was the leader of the synagogue in Corinth who had later become a brother in the Good News (Gospel) of Yeshua Mashiyach under Rav Shaul (Paul).

"called to be saints" according different translation Bible:

The Aramaic word kraya means "the called ones" or "the invited" more deep meaning: called to be dedicated to Yeshua's Torah (Teaching/Instructing). Jewish and Aramean (Syrian) servants in Corinth were invited, or called, by the grace of God to come into the assembly of Yeshua Mashiyach. "Sanctified" means "set aside for the ministry of Yeshua's Good News (Gospel) of God's Kingdom.

    1 Corinthians 1:1-3 TLV

1Paul, called as an emissary of Messiah Yeshua by the will of God, and Sosthenes our brother,

2To God’s community in Corinth—having been made holy in Messiah Yeshua, called as kedoshim—with all who everywhere call on the name of our Lord Yeshua the Messiah, both theirs and ours:

3Grace to you and shalom from God our Father, and the Lord Yeshua the Messiah!

  • YHWH/Yeshua/Torah: Ephesians 4 Chapter

    Ephesians 4 Chapter

Ephesians 4 Chapter TLV (Tree of Life Bible "Version")

Unity of the Body and of God

1 Therefore I, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you were called—

2 with complete humility and gentleness, with patience, putting up with one another in love,

3 making every effort to keep the unity of the Ruach in the bond of shalom.

    4 There is one body and one Ruach, just as you also were called in one hope of your calling;

    5 one Lord, one faith, one immersion;

6 one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.

7 But to each one of us grace was given in keeping with the measure of Messiah’s gift.

8 Therefore it says, “When He went up on high, He led captive a troop of captives and gave gifts to his people.”

9 Now what does “He went up” mean, except that He first went down to the lower regions of the earth?

10 The One who came down is the same One who went up far above all the heavens, in order to fill all things.

11 He Himself gave some to be emissaries, some as prophets, some as proclaimers of the Good News, and some as shepherds and teachers—

12 to equip the kedoshim for the work of service, for building up the body of Messiah.

13 This will continue until we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of Ben-Elohim—to mature adulthood, to the measure of the stature of Messiah’s fullness.

14 As a result, we are no longer to be like children, tossed around by the waves and blown all over by every wind of teaching, by the trickery of men with cunning in deceitful scheming.

15 Instead, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in all ways into Messiah, who is the Head.

16 From Him the whole body is fitted and held together by every supporting ligament. The proper working of each individual part produces the body’s growth, for building itself up in love.

Put Off The Old, Put On The New

17 So I tell you this, indeed I insist on it in the Lord—walk no longer as the pagans do, stumbling around in the futility of their thinking.

18 They are darkened in their understanding, alienated from the life of God because of the ignorance in them due to the hardness of their heart.

19 Since they are past feeling, they have turned themselves over to indecency for the practice of every kind of immorality, with greed for more.

20 However, you did not learn Messiah in this way—

21 if indeed you have heard Him and were taught in Him, as the truth is in Yeshua.

22 With respect to your former lifestyle, you are to lay aside the old self corrupted by its deceitful desires,

23 be renewed in the spirit of your mind,

24 and put on the new self—created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.

25 So lay aside lying and “each one of you speak truth with his neighbor,” for we are members of one another.

26 “Be angry, yet do not sin.” Do not let the sun go down on your anger,

27 nor give the devil a foothold.

28 The one who steals must steal no longer—instead he must work, doing something useful with his own hands, so he may have something to share with the one who has need.

29 Let no harmful word come out of your mouth, but only what is beneficial for building others up according to the need, so that it gives grace to those who hear it.

30 Do not grieve the Ruach ha-Kodesh of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.

31 Get rid of all bitterness and rage and anger and quarreling and slander, along with all malice.

32 Instead, be kind to one another, compassionate, forgiving each other just as God in Messiah also forgave you.

  • YHWH/Yeshua/Torah: Deut 23 and Nehemial 13

    Servants of YHWH/Yeshua/Torah

YHWH warns about us all servants of YHWH/Yeshua/Torah about Deut 23 and Neh. 13:

Deut 23 Chapter is the powerful chapter.   Beautiful example of the Book of Ruth:   That is why Ruth once was foreigner living in Ammonites or Moabites and obeyed Torah - "crossed over" [Hebrew] by faith, no more practice of their disgusting contaminated sins.

    Deut 23 Chapter:   Various Laws

1 [a] A man whose testicles are crushed or whose penis is cut off may never join the assembly of Yahweh.

2 A man born from an illicit union may not join the assembly of Yahweh. No descendant of his may join the assembly of Yahweh for ten generations.

    Read slow on verses 3-8:

3 Ammonites or Moabites may not join the assembly of Yahweh. Not one descendant of theirs may join the assembly of Yahweh for ten generations. 4 They cannot join because they didn’t greet you with food and water on your trip from Egypt. They even hired Balaam, son of Beor, from Pethor in Aram Naharaim, to curse you. 5 But Yahweh your Elohim refused to listen to Balaam. Instead, he turned Balaam’s curse into a blessing for you because Yahweh your Elohim loves you. 6 Never offer them peace or friendship as long as you live.7 Never consider the Edomites disgusting. They’re your relatives. Never consider the Egyptians disgusting. You once were foreigners living in their country. 8 Their grandchildren may join the assembly of Yahweh.

9 When you’re at war and have set up camp to fight your enemies, stay away from anything that will make you unclean.[b] 10 If one of your men becomes unclean from a nocturnal emission, he must go outside the camp and stay there. 11 Toward evening he must wash, and at sunset he may come back to camp. 12 Choose a place outside the camp where you can go to relieve yourself. 13 You must carry a pointed stick as part of your equipment. When you go outside to squat, dig a hole with it. When you’re done, cover up your excrement. 14 Yahweh your Elohim moves around in your camp to protect you and hand your enemies over to you. So your camp must always be holy. This way, Yahweh will never see anything offensive among you and turn away from you.

15 If a slave escapes from his master and comes to you, don’t return him to his master. 16 Let him stay with you and live among your people wherever he chooses, in any of your cities that seems best to him. Never mistreat him.

17 No Israelite man or woman should ever become a temple prostitute. 18 Never bring gifts or money earned by prostitution into the house of Yahweh your Elohim as an offering you vowed to give. These earnings are disgusting to Yahweh your Elohim.

19 Never charge another Israelite any interest on money, food, or anything else that is borrowed. 20 You may charge a foreigner interest, but not an Israelite. Then Yahweh your Elohim will bless you in everything you do once you’ve entered the land and taken possession of it.

21 If you make a vow to Yahweh your Elohim, don’t avoid keeping it. Yahweh your Elohim expects you to keep it. You would be guilty of a sin if you didn’t. 22 If you didn’t make a vow, you would not be guilty. 23 Make sure you do what you said you would do in your vow. You freely chose to make your vow to Yahweh your Elohim.

24 If you go into your neighbor’s vineyard, you may eat as many grapes as you like until you’re full. But never put any in your basket. 25 If you go into your neighbor’s grain field, you may pick grain by hand. But never use a sickle to cut your neighbor’s grain.

    Footnotes:

Deuteronomy 23:1 Deuteronomy 23:1–25 in English Bibles is Deuteronomy 23:2–26 in the Hebrew Bible.

Deuteronomy 23:9 “Unclean” refers to anything that is not presentable to God.

Deut 23:17 There shall be no harlot of the daughters of Israel, neither shall there be a sodomite of the sons of Israel.

This verse talk about "sexual practices sins" among the Israelites at that time, but this verse still apply us all mankind.

Torah is set-apart (holy) direct us all:   do and don't

sodomite of the sons of Israel = men practice homosexual temple prostitute refers Romans 1:27

harlot of the daughters of Israel = women - whore or sodomitess refers Romans 1:26

    Romans 1:18-32

God’s Anger against Sinful Humanity [people]

18 God’s anger is revealed from heaven against every ungodly and immoral thing people do as they try to suppress the truth by their immoral living. 19 What can be known about God is clear to them because he has made it clear to them. 20 From the creation of the world, God’s invisible qualities, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly observed in what he made. As a result, people have no excuse. 21 They knew God but did not praise and thank him for being God. Instead, their thoughts were pointless, and their misguided minds were plunged into darkness. 22 While claiming to be wise, they became fools. 23 They exchanged the glory of the immortal God for statues that looked like mortal humans, birds, animals, and snakes.

Read slow on verses 24-27 people "practice" ungodliness sexual practices:

24 For this reason God allowed their lusts to control them. As a result, they dishonor their bodies by sexual perversion with each other. 25 These people have exchanged God’s truth for a lie. So they have become ungodly and serve what is created rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen!

    Women:

26 For this reason God allowed their shameful passions to control them. Their women have exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones.

    Men:

27 Likewise, their men have given up natural sexual relations with women and burn with lust for each other. Men commit indecent acts with men, so they experience among themselves the punishment they deserve for their perversion.

28 And because they thought it was worthless to acknowledge God, God allowed their own immoral minds to control them. So they do these indecent things. 29 Their lives are filled with all kinds of sexual sins, wickedness, and greed. They are mean. They are filled with envy, murder, quarreling, deceit, and viciousness. They are gossips, 30 slanderers, haters of God, haughty, arrogant, and boastful. They think up new ways to be cruel. They don’t obey their parents, 31 don’t have any sense, don’t keep promises, and don’t show love to their own families or mercy to others.

The powerful key is for servants of YHWH/Yeshua/Torah must not approve of others who do (practice) them (all sins are general):

32 Although they know God’s judgment that those who do such things deserve to die, they not only do these things but also approve of others who do them.

Now see analogy of YHWH ban the "priests and Levities" who practiced contaminated sins in Nehemiah 13 Chapter:

"some Jews" married women from Ashdod, Ammon, and Moah still practiced "contaminated" sins.

Nehemiah 13 Chapter (you can read whole):  Nehemiah 13:23-31 about "priests and Levities":

    Nehemiah Dissolves Marriages to Foreigners

23 In those days I saw some Jews who had married women from Ashdod, Ammon, and Moab. 24 Half their children spoke the language of Ashdod or one of the other languages, but they couldn’t understand the language of Judah well enough to speak it. 25 So I reprimanded those Jews, cursed them, beat some of them, and pulled out their hair. I made them swear by Elohim: “We won’t allow our daughters to marry their sons, and we won’t allow their daughters to marry us or our sons.” 26 I said, “Wasn’t it because of marriages like these that King Solomon of Israel sinned? There wasn’t a king like him among all nations. Elohim loved him, and Elohim made him king of all Israel. But his non-Israelite wives led him to sin. 27 Should we follow your example, commit such a serious crime against our Elohim, and be unfaithful to him by marrying non-Israelite women?”

28 Even one of Joiada’s sons was a son-in-law of Sanballat from Beth Horon. (Joiada was the son of the chief priest Eliashib.) I chased Joiada’s son away from me.

29 Nehemiah prayed, “Remember them, my God, because they have contaminated the priestly office and the promise [covenant] you made to the priests and Levites.”

30 So I cleansed them from everything that was foreign. I assigned duties to the priests and Levites. Each one had his own assignment. 31 I also arranged for delivering wood at regular times and for bringing the first produce to be harvested.

Nehemiah prayed, “Remember me, my God, for my benefit.”

You have shabbat day.  Double Fonzie!

  • YHWH/Yeshua/Torah: Seven ("7") Pillars of Wisdom

    Seven Pillars of Wisdom

    YHWH/Yeshua/Torah: Seven Pillars of Wisdom

    Proverbs 8:12-14
12 "I, wisdom, have made prudence my dwelling. Find out knowledge and discretion.
13 The fear of YHWH is to hate evil. I hate pride, arrogance, the evil way, and the perverse mouth.
14 Counsel and sound knowledge are mine. I have understanding and power.

    Proverbs 9:1
Wisdom has built her house. She has carved out her seven pillars.

    Isaiah 11:1-5

1 There shall come forth a netzer out of the stock of Yishai, and a branch out of his roots shall bear fruit.
2 The Spirit of YHWH shall rest on him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of YHWH.

    The above show:

    1. Spirit of YHWH
    2. wisdom
    3. understanding
    4. counsel
    5. might
    6. knowledge
    7. fear [reverence] of YHWH

    3 His delight shall be in the fear of YHWH; and he shall not judge after the sight of his eyes, neither decide after the hearing of his ears;
4 but with righteousness shall he judge the poor, and decide with equity for the humble of the eretz; and he shall strike the eretz with the rod of his mouth; and with the breath of his lips shall he kill the wicked.
5 Righteousness shall be the belt of his waist, and faithfulness the belt of his loins.

Deep thought about Seven "7":  This is YHWH's Design.

The below photo shows colors in order:  Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, Violet

Remember the key:  Always!   Seven colors always do in order.

    light_spectrum

    The spectrum:
So the light spectrum works the same every time because it is based on the fequency and wavelength.

Certain colors are associated with certain wavelength ranges. If their lamda is so short we do not see it just as if the wave is really long we do not see it. As the lamda gets closer and closer to the visible range and into the range, it hits certain colors. The wavelengths will always appear in the same order.

With a rainbow the moisture and water in the air acts as a prism for the white light from the sun. In doing so the light is broken up into it's mixture of colors and will always do so in the same order.

    Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, Violet. Photo: lets count 1 2 3 4 5 6 7!

25 So the land became unclean, and {I have brought the punishment of} its guilt upon it, and the land has vomited out its inhabitants.

26 But you ([neither] the native nor the alien who is dwelling in your midst) shall keep my statutes and my regulations, and you shall not {practice} any of these detestable things

27 (because the people of the land, who [were] {before you}, did all these detestable things, so the land became unclean),

    Servant of YHWH/Yeshua/Torah

    Malachi 3:16

June 15, 2015

  • YHWH/Yeshua/Torah: "Cave of Machpelah"

    cave_of_machpelah

    Shalom!

    YHWH/Yeshua/Torah: "Cave of Machpelah"

Hebron is a city in Canaan, which was originally named Kiriath-arba. The key is Bereishit (Genesis) 23:19:

    Genesis 23:19 ESV

After this, Abraham [Avraham] buried Sarah his wife in the cave of the field of Machpelah east of Mamre (that is, Hebron) in the land of Canaan.

"Cave of Macheplah": The city of Hebron was in ancient times known to be called Kirjath-arba or "Kiriath Arba" ("city of Arba"; apparently after Arba).

First share deep about Abraham [Abram] was "Friend of YHWH" forever:

    Bereishit (Genesis) 15 Chapter about

YHWH's Covenant with Abram [Avram] later changed to Abraham [Avraham] in Genesis 18:

1 After these things the word of Yahweh came to Abram in a vision, saying: "Do not be afraid, Abram; I [am] your shield, [and] your reward [shall be] very great."

    2 Then Abram said, "O Yahweh, my Lord, what will you give me? {I continue to be}

childless, and {my heir} is Eliezer of Damascus."

3 And Abram said, "Look, you have not given me a descendant, and here, {a member of my household} [is] {my heir}."

4 And behold, the word of Yahweh [came] to him saying, "This [person] will not {be your heir}, but {your own son will be your heir}."

5 And he brought him outside and said, "Look toward the heavens and count the stars if you are able to count them." And he said to him, "So shall your offspring be."

6 And he believed in Yahweh, and he reckoned it to him [as] righteousness.

7 And he said to him, "I [am] Yahweh, who brought you out from Ur of the Chaldeans to give this land to you, to possess it."

8 And he said, "O Yahweh God, how shall I know [that] I will possess it?"

9 And he said to him, "Take for me a three-year-old heifer, and a three-year-old female goat, and a three-year-old ram, and a turtledove and a young pigeon."

10 And he took for him all these and cut them in pieces down the middle. And he put each piece opposite {the other}, but the birds he did not cut.

11 And the birds of prey came down on the carcasses, but Abram drove them away.

12 And it happened, as the sun {went down}, then a deep sleep fell upon Abram and, behold, a great terrifying darkness fell upon him.

13 And he said to Abram, "{You must surely know} that your descendants shall be [as] aliens in a land {not their own}. And they shall serve them and they shall oppress them four hundred years.

14 And also the nation that they serve I will judge. Then afterward they shall go out with great possessions.

15 And [as for] you, you shall go to your ancestors in peace; you shall be buried in a good old age.

16 And the fourth generation shall return here, for the guilt of the Amorites {is not yet complete}."

17 And after the sun had gone down and it [was] dusk, behold, a smoking firepot and a flaming torch passed between those half pieces.

18 On that day Yahweh {made} a covenant with Abram saying, "To your offspring I will give this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the Euphrates river,

19 [the land of] the Kenites, the Kenizzites, the Kadmonites,

20 the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Rephaim,

21 the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Girgashites, and the Jebusites."

Isaiah 41:8 But you, Israel, my servant, Jacob, whom I have chosen, you, the offspring of Abraham my friend,

Isaaiah 41:9 you whom I grasped from the ends of the earth and called from its remotest parts and told, "You are my servant; I have chosen you and I have not rejected you."

2 Chronciles 20:7 O, our God, did you yourself not drive out the inhabitants of this land before your people Israel and give it to the descendants of Abraham your friend forever?

Yeshua haMashiyach is on John 15 CJB about Friend of YHWH:

1 "I am the real vine, and my Father is the gardener.

2 Every branch which is part of me but fails to bear fruit, he cuts off; and every branch that does bear fruit, he prunes, so that it may bear more fruit.

3 Right now, because of the word which I have spoken to you, you are pruned.

4 Stay united with me, as I will with you -- for just as the branch can't put forth fruit by itself apart from the vine, so you can't bear fruit apart from me.

5 "I am the vine and you are the branches. Those who stay united with me, and I with them, are the ones who bear much fruit; because apart from me you can't do a thing.

6 Unless a person remains united with me, he is thrown away like a branch and dries up. Such branches are gathered and thrown into the fire, where they are burned up.

7 "If you remain united with me, and my words with you, then ask whatever you want, and it will happen for you.

8 This is how my Father is glorified -- in your bearing much fruit; this is how you will prove to be my talmidim.

9 "Just as my Father has loved me, I too have loved you; so stay in my love.

10 If you keep my commands, you will stay in my love -- just as I have kept my Father's commands and stay in his love.

11 I have said this to you so that my joy may be in you, and your joy be complete.

12 "This is my command: that you keep on loving each other just as I have loved you.

13 No one has greater love than a person who lays down his life for his friends.

14 You are my friends, if you do what I command you.

15 I no longer call you slaves, because a slave doesn't know what his master is about; but I have called you friends, because everything I have heard from my Father I have made known to you.

16 You did not choose me, I chose you; and I have commissioned you to go and bear fruit, fruit that will last; so that whatever you ask from the Father in my name he may give you.

17 This is what I command you: keep loving each other!

18 "If the world hates you, understand that it hated me first.

19 If you belonged to the world, the world would have loved its own. But because you do not belong to the world -- on the contrary, I have picked you out of the world -- therefore the world hates you.

20 Remember what I told you, `A slave is not greater than his master.' If they persecuted me, they will persecute you too; if they kept my word, they will keep yours too.

21 But they will do all this to you on my account, because they don't know the One who sent me.

22 "If I had not come and spoken to them, they wouldn't be guilty of sin; but now, they have no excuse for their sin.

23 Whoever hates me hates my Father also.

24 If I had not done in their presence works which no one else ever did, they would not be guilty of sin; but now, they have seen them and have hated both me and my Father.

25 But this has happened in order to fulfill the words in their Torah which read, `They hated me for no reason at all.'

26 "When the Counselor comes, whom I will send you from the Father -- the Spirit of Truth, who keeps going out from the Father -- he will testify on my behalf.

27 And you testify too, because you have been with me from the outset.

James 2:23 And the scripture was fulfilled, which saith: Abraham believed in God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness, and he was called the Friend of God.

Shalom!   We all read every scripture verses about "Friend of YHWH" so let's exciting to learn new about Hebron have same root-verb:

Abraham's body was buried in Hebron. Hebron means from the root-verb חבר (habar): "to join" or "connection" - very deep interesting about "friend" in English: share both same root in Hebrew, "chaver", since "cHaVeR" shares the same root as "HeBRon".

Kiriath-Arba [Kiryat-Arba, Kirjath-arba, "city of four", city of Arba]:

Some view very interesting about "the city of four" refers Kirjath-arba or the city of Arba. (Many have been conjectures concerning the origin of this name: Some have conclued, It literally means the city of four that it was called because Adam, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob were buried there.)

Interesting! Some says: "city of four" possibly referring to the four pairs or couples who were buried there, or four tribes, or four quarters, four hills, or a confederated settlement of four families.

Four buried in "Cave of Machepelch"

Adam, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob were in "Cave of the Patriarchs":

[Eve, Sarah, Rebekah and Leah were wives of the Patriarchs also called "Cave of the Matriarchs"]

    1. Adam & Eve [Chavah]

    2. Abraham & Sarah

    3. Isaac [Yitz'chak] & Rebekah [Rivkah]

    4. Jacob [Ya'akov/Yisrael] & Leah [Le'ah]

    Bereishit (Genesis) 49:29-32 ESV

Yisrael (Jacob) instructed his sons about "bury in Cave of Machpelah":

Gen 49:29 Then he commanded them and said to them, "I am to be gathered to my people; bury me with my fathers in the cave that is in the field of Ephron the Hittite,

Gen 49:30 in the cave that is in the field at Machpelah, to the east of Mamre, in the land of Canaan, which Abraham bought with the field from Ephron the Hittite to possess as a burying place.

Gen 49:31 There they buried Abraham and Sarah his wife. There they buried Isaac and Rebekah his wife, and there I buried Leah—

Gen 49:32 the field and the cave that is in it were bought from the Hittites."

Joshua 14 Names of God Bible (NOG)

The First Stage in Dividing the Land

14 This is the land that the people of Israel inherited in Canaan. The priest Eleazar, Joshua (son of Nun), and the heads of Israel’s tribes distributed it to the people. 2 The land inherited by the nine-and-a-half tribes was determined by drawing lots as Yahweh had commanded through Moses. 3 Moses had given the two-and-a-half tribes their inheritance east of the Jordan River. He did not give any land as an inheritance to Levi’s tribe, 4 because Joseph’s descendants, Manasseh and Ephraim, formed two tribes. The Levites were not given a share of the land. Joseph’s descendants gave the Levites cities to live in with pasturelands for their cattle and everything they had. 5 So the people of Israel divided the land as Yahweh had commanded Moses.

    Special Land for Caleb

6 Then the people of Judah came to Joshua at Gilgal. Caleb, son of Jephunneh and grandson of Kenaz, said to him, "You know what Yahweh said to Moses, the man of Elohim, at Kadesh Barnea about you and me. 7 I was 40 years old when Yahweh’s servant Moses sent me from Kadesh Barnea to explore the land. I reported to him exactly what I thought. 8 But my companions discouraged the people. However, I was completely loyal to Yahweh my Elohim. 9 On that day Moses swore this oath: ‘The land your feet walked on will be a permanent inheritance for you and your descendants because you were completely loyal to Yahweh my Elohim.’

10 "So look at me. Yahweh has kept me alive as he promised. It’s been 45 years since Israel wandered in the desert when Yahweh made this promise to Moses. So now look at me today. I’m 85 years old. 11 I’m still as fit to go to war now as I was when Moses sent me out. 12 Now give me this mountain region which Yahweh spoke of that day. You heard that the people of Anak are still there and that they have large, fortified cities. If Yahweh is with me, I can force them out, as Yahweh promised."

13 So Joshua blessed Caleb, son of Jephunneh, and gave him Hebron as his inheritance. 14 Hebron is still the inheritance of Caleb, son of Jephunneh and grandson of Kenaz, because Caleb was completely loyal to Yahweh Elohim of Israel. 15 In the past Hebron was called Kiriath Arba. Arba was the greatest man among the people of Anak. So the land had peace.

Joshua 2:1-24 Names of God Bible (NOG)

    Joshua Sends Spies to Jericho

2 From Shittim Joshua, son of Nun, secretly sent out two men as spies. He told them, "Go, look at that country, especially the city of Jericho." So they went to Jericho and entered the house of a prostitute named Rahab to spend the night there.

2 The king of Jericho was told, "Some Israelites have entered the city tonight. They came to gather information about our land." 3 So the king of Jericho sent messengers to Rahab, who told her, "Bring out the men who came to your house. They came here to gather information about the entire land."

4 But the woman had already taken the two men inside and hidden them. So she said, "Yes, the men did come here. But I didn’t know where they had come from. 5 When it was dark and the gate was just about to close, they left. I don’t know where they went. If you hurry, you’ll catch up with them." 6 (She had taken them up to the roof and covered them with the flax which she had laid up there.)

7 The king’s men pursued them on the road leading to a shallow place to cross the Jordan River. As soon as the king’s men had left, the gate was closed.

8 Before the spies fell asleep, Rahab went up to them on the roof. 9 She said to them, "I know Yahweh will give you this land. Your presence terrifies us. All the people in this country are deathly afraid of you. 10 We’ve heard how Yahweh dried up the water of the Red Sea in front of you when you left Egypt. We’ve also heard what you did to Sihon and Og, the two kings of the Amorites, who ruled east of the Jordan River. We’ve heard how you destroyed them for the Lord. 11 When we heard about it, we lost heart. There was no courage left in any of us because of you. Yahweh your Elohim is the Elohim of heaven and earth. 12 Please swear by Yahweh that you’ll be as kind to my father’s family as I’ve been to you. Also give me some proof 13 that you’ll protect my father, mother, brothers, sisters, and their households, and that you’ll save us from death."

14 The men promised her, "We pledge our lives for your lives. If you don’t tell anyone what we’re doing here, we’ll treat you kindly and honestly when Yahweh gives us this land."

15 So she let them down by a rope from her window since her house was built into the city wall. (She lived in the city wall.) 16 She told them, "Go to the mountains so that the men who are pursuing you will not find you. Hide there for three days until they return to Jericho. Then you can go on your way."

17 The men told her, "We will be free from the oath which you made us swear, if you tell anyone what we’re doing here. 18 When we invade your land, tie this red cord in the window through which you let us down. Also, gather your father, mother, brothers, and all your father’s family into your house. 19 Whoever leaves your house will be responsible for his own life. We will be free from that responsibility. But we will take responsibility if anyone inside your house is harmed. 20 If you tell anyone what we’re doing here, we will be free from the oath which you made us swear."

21 "I agree," she said. So she let them go and tied the red cord in the window.

22 The men went to the mountains and stayed there for three days until the king’s men returned to Jericho. The king’s men had searched for them all along the road but had not found them. 23 Then the two spies came down out of the mountains, crossed the Jordan River, and returned to Joshua, son of Nun. They told him everything that had happened to them. 24 They told Joshua, "Yahweh has given us the whole country. The people who live there are deathly afraid of us."

Parsha #37: Shlach Lecha (Send out for yourself)

Brother Andrew G Roth's excellent PDF

    1) Haftorah portion (English- Joshua 2:1-24) and discuss common themes with the Torah portion.

Vayishlach Yehoshua bin-Nun min-haShitim shnayim anashim

meraglim cheresh lemor lechu re'u et-ha'arets ve'et-Yericho vayelchu

vayavo'u beyt ishah zonah ushmah Rachav vayishkevu-shamah.

    2) Our linguistic commentary…

ISHAH (2:1) = can generically mean "wife" or "female". The connotation for

Rahab is that she is a wayward woman, someone who cheated on her husband perhaps, but not a "prostitute" per se who traded sex for money.

RAHAB (2:1) = large or broad.

ZONAH (2:1-rabbinic commentary) means "harlot" but they favor ZANAH for describing Rahab, which is "one who feeds/takes care of" as in an innkeeper. The LXX though calls her PORNE (prostitute).

    VATITMENEM BEFISHTAY HA’ERETZ HA’ARUCHOT LAH AL-HAGAG

(2:6) = But she had taken them up to the roof and hidden them in the stacks of flax which she had spread out there. This is another good piece of evidence that the Jericho campaign takes place in the spring time, just after Passover. But this early part of spying out the land only makes sense if the month of Adar is hitting late that year (1405 BCE) and in fact it does. 29 Adar, the last day of that month is on March 23rd and the most probable date for this event is a few days later, on Sunday, March 27th, which is also the 4th day of Abib.

KI VEYTA BEKIR HACHOMAH UVACHOMA HI YOSHAVET (2:15) = for her house was on the side of the wall, so she lived in the wall. In other words, Rahab is in an extremely strategic locations, which is why the guards seek her out so quickly even though they have no evidence she saw these men. They have made a likely assumption that if a group of spies came in, they would seek shelter at the earliest possible opportunity, in a place like Rahab’s house. She also clearly is used to dealing with soldiers given her answer. It also works in this other sense:

Joshua would probably have destroyed her house in the wall FIRST if she didn’t help him.

    Hebrews 2

Hebrews 2 Complete Jewish Bible (CJB)

2 Therefore, we must pay much more careful heed to the things we have heard, so that we will not drift away. 2 For if the word God spoke through angels became binding, so that every violation and act of disobedience received its just deserts in full measure, 3 then how will we escape if we ignore such a great deliverance? This deliverance, which was first declared by the Lord, was confirmed to us by those who heard him; 4 while God also bore witness to it with various signs, wonders and miracles, and with gifts of the Ruach HaKodesh which he distributed as he chose.

5 For it was not to angels that God subjected the ‘olam haba — which is what we are talking about. 6 And there is a place where someone has given this solemn testimony:

"What is mere man, that you concern yourself with him?
or the son of man, that you watch over him with such care?
7 You made him a little lower than the angels,
you crowned him with glory and honor,
8 you put everything in subjection under his feet."

In subjecting everything to him, he left nothing unsubjected to him. However, at present, we don’t see everything subjected to him — at least, not yet. 9 But we do see Yeshua — who indeed was made for a little while lower than the angels — now crowned with glory and honor because he suffered death, so that by God’s grace he might taste death for all humanity. 10 For in bringing many sons to glory, it was only fitting that God, the Creator and Preserver of everything, should bring the Initiator of their deliverance to the goal through sufferings. 11 For both Yeshua, who sets people apart for God, and the ones being set apart have a common origin — this is why he is not ashamed to call them brothers 12 when he says,

    "I will proclaim your name to my brothers;
in the midst of the congregation I will sing your praise."

    13 Also,

"I will put my trust in him, . . ."

    and then it goes on,

"Here I am, along with the children God has given me."

14 Therefore, since the children share a common physical nature as human beings, he became like them and shared that same human nature; so that by his death he might render ineffective the one who had power over death (that is, the Adversary) 15 and thus set free those who had been in bondage all their lives because of their fear of death.

16 Indeed, it is obvious that he does not take hold of angels to help them; on the contrary,

"He takes hold of the seed of Avraham."

17 This is why he had to become like his brothers in every respect — so that he might become a merciful and faithful cohen gadol in the service of God, making a kapparah for the sins of the people. 18 For since he himself suffered death when he was put to the test, he is able to help those who are being tested now.
